Africa Awaits

My next adventure is 6 weeks away and will find yours truly learning and immersing herself into Ugandan culture.  I will be traveling in the African country of Uganda with my International Community Development group at Portland State University.

This will be a trip packed full of learning & growth opportunities.  The 6 of us will be focusing on human/social equity issues (including HIV/Aids), sustainable economy, and sustainable agriculture and tourism.  We will be making a slow and steady loop through southwestern Uganda, speaking with market vendors, farmers, indigenous NGOs (non-governmental organizations), the U.N. Millennium Development Village, government officials, and enjoying homestays with local Ugandans in rural areas.

Most of our days will be packed full of work but we will enjoy a couple of free days to go on a chimpanzee trek and hopefully visit the lowland mountain gorillas on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo!

I am very much looking forward to this experience and will keep you posted on any upcoming developments.  I will of course document my adventure upon return -- and abroad if able.
